About this pack

Medieval ornament lived on edges. The border of a tapestry, the rim of a boss, the tooled edge of a book cover, the hem of a surcoat — decoration followed a line and repeated along it. This kit collects 115 of those border motifs and ships every one of them in three forms, so the same drawing works whether it is being sculpted, painted onto a texture, or composited flat.

What ships

  • 115 medieval border patterns as PSD and PNG alphas, 16-bit
  • 115 ZBP roll brushes for ZBrush
  • 115 SBSAR brushes for Substance
  • 115 preview renders
  • A Path tool walkthrough, as MP4 and PDF

That walkthrough is the piece most buyers use first. Substance's Path tool lets you draw a spline across a model and run a brush along it, and a border pattern is exactly what the tool was designed to carry: the motif follows the curve, keeps the spacing you set, and can be redrawn without repainting anything. The video and its PDF companion cover the setup end to end, including the parameters on these particular brushes.

In ZBrush the equivalent is the roll brush, where the stroke advances the pattern rather than stamping it. A helmet band, a chest rim, a shield edge or a door frame takes a continuous run of ornament in one pass, and the height is authored deep enough to survive being flattened into a normal map afterwards.

The alphas are the fallback that never fails. Sixteen-bit PSD and PNG open anywhere — Photoshop, Blender, a Designer graph, a Substance stencil — and at that depth the relief holds together when it is pushed hard into displacement. The ZBrush brushes require 2018 or above, and so do the SBSAR files, with Adobe Substance 3D version 7 or newer needed for the brush versions specifically.

Every purchase includes free lifetime updates and a no-questions-asked 7 day money back guarantee.

About Textures & Patterns

These packs cover the surface detail that generators cannot invent for you. Every pattern is seamless in both axes, authored from height data first so the normal and ambient occlusion maps agree with each other, and tuned for even contrast across the whole set.

Use them as stencils, projections, trim strips or straight tiling fills. They work in Substance Painter and Designer, ZBrush, Blender and any DCC that reads a PNG.
