About this pack

Clay is the least forgiving of the everyday surfaces to fake. It is matte almost everywhere, it takes light through a shallow scatter rather than a highlight, and its whole story is written in fingermarks, drag lines, drying cracks and the dust that settles into them. Volume 15 is twenty clay surfaces built as Substance Painter smart materials, aimed at environment and prop artists working on pottery before it is glazed, adobe and rammed-earth walls, terracotta roof and floor tiles, unfired sculpture and archaeological set dressing.

What you get

  • 20 clay smart materials in SPSM format for Substance Painter
  • 20 matching 4K clay PBR texture sets, 4096 × 4096
  • JPEG preview renders of the full set

The twenty are variations on a theme rather than twenty unrelated looks, and that is the point. A room of earthenware wants one clay body reading consistently across a dozen objects, with only the wear and the tone shifting between them; dropping the same SPSM onto each mesh and pushing two layer parameters gets that family resemblance far faster than texturing each piece from nothing.

The PBR sets earn their place twice over. They carry the look out of Substance Painter into any renderer that reads a standard PBR set, and they are useful as source material inside Substance Designer, where a clay basecolour and height pair blends readily under brick, plaster or moss. Sculptors use flat clay maps a third way, as a presentation shader — a matte clay render is still the honest way to show silhouette and form before any colour work begins.

Open the pack in the current release of Substance Painter so every layer and generator in the stack resolves.

Every purchase includes free lifetime updates and a no-questions-asked 7 day money back guarantee.

About Smart Materials

Every set in this aisle is built the way I build materials for client work: layered, parametric and non-destructive. Nothing is baked flat, so you can open any material and change the base colour, the wear amount or the roughness breakup without starting over.

Each material ships alongside a rendered 4K PBR texture set — base colour, roughness, metallic, normal and height — so you can use it outside Substance Painter in Blender, Unreal, Unity or any renderer that speaks PBR.
