About this pack

Twenty stitch trim brushes for Substance Painter and ZBrush, for the point at which a garment is finished and its seams still need to look sewn. What separates this set from a flat stitch alpha is how much stays adjustable after the stroke is drawn: colour, the position of the wrinkling the thread pulls into the cloth, and the other exposed parameters — so one brush becomes the tight topstitch on a leather jacket and the loose puckered seam on a cotton shirt without leaving the layer.

What is in the pack

  • 20 stitch trim brushes for Substance Painter, path tool compatible
  • The same 20 as ZBrush brushes
  • Alphas at 4K and 16-bit, in PNG, PSD, EXR and TIFF
  • A preview of every brush
  • A PDF guide and a video walkthrough of the Path tool workflow

Fitting into a clothing pipeline

A garment out of Marvelous Designer arrives with seams that are geometrically correct and visually blank. There are two routes from there. Take it into ZBrush, run the stitch brushes along the seam lines, and the thread exists in the sculpt to be baked down with everything else. Or skip the sculpt entirely and paint the same stitches as height in Substance Painter, where the path tool keeps the seam editable while the rest of the material is still being decided.

Wrinkle position is the parameter that earns the most use. Thread under tension gathers the cloth on one side of a seam and not the other, and being able to slide that gather rather than repaint it is the difference between a seam that looks sewn and one that looks printed.

The EXR alphas are there for pipelines that want float height — a Marmoset bake, a 3D-Coat sculpt, a displacement setup — and the PSD versions for altering the thread spacing before use.

About Alphas & Brushes

These sets are the finishing detail that decides whether an asset reads as real. The alphas are rendered from actual geometry rather than traced from photos, so edges stay crisp under projection and the height data holds up when you push it into a normal map.

Brush presets are included for both Substance Painter and ZBrush, with spacing and falloff already dialled in.
