Hardsurface Tutorial Collection — VOL 03 - Scifi Helmet
Hardsurface Tutorial Collection VOL 03 takes a sci-fi helmet from 2D concept to finished hard-surface mesh in 270 unnarrated minutes of 3ds Max.
A stylised rifle with a scope, drawn from the weapon concepts of BioShock Infinite and rebuilt from nothing in Blender and Substance Painter. This is the shorter of the studio's firearm walkthroughs and the one that leans hardest on silhouette: the shape is game art, exaggerated on purpose, so the modelling chapters spend their time on proportion rather than on engineering accuracy.
Cloth is the part most firearm tutorials skip. Here the fabric is taken into Marvelous Designer rather than modelled by hand, which gives it fold behaviour that box-modelled cloth never has, and it comes back into the scene as ordinary geometry. The unwrap is deliberately kept to one UV tile, so the whole weapon shares a texture set and nothing has to be matched across a seam later on.
Texturing opens by baking the mesh maps, then splits the model into four material folders and works each one to completion before moving to the next. That habit is worth borrowing on any prop with mixed materials, because it stops a curvature mask tuned for metal quietly being reused on wood. Marmoset Toolbag closes the recording with materials, lighting and camera.
The download carries the recordings, the blueprint and the reference sheet. It does not carry the finished mesh or the Substance Painter project, so this is genuinely a rebuild rather than a file to open. All footage is unnarrated — no commentary, no subtitles — and the pace assumes you already know your way around the five applications involved.
Every purchase includes free lifetime updates and a no-questions-asked 7 day money back guarantee.
Each tutorial follows one asset from start to finish in real time. Every decision is explained as it is made, so you can see not just what was done but why that approach was chosen over the alternatives.
