Hardsurface Tutorial Collection — VOL 03 - Scifi Helmet
Hardsurface Tutorial Collection VOL 03 takes a sci-fi helmet from 2D concept to finished hard-surface mesh in 270 unnarrated minutes of 3ds Max.
Fourteen hours of screen capture following one prop from an empty Blender scene to a finished real-time render — a custom rifle with horns grown out of its frame. It is a hard-surface project rather than a beginner class, and it assumes you can already navigate Blender, Rizom UV, Substance Painter and Marmoset Toolbag well enough to work in them unaided.
The modelling half starts on a proxy mesh, sculpts the edges into it and carries that up to a highpoly version, and only then rebuilds the shape as a lowpoly mesh clean enough to unwrap. That order is the whole argument of the first eight hours: the silhouette is settled while the mesh is still cheap to change, and the detail pass never has to fight geometry that was committed to too early.
Unwrapping moves to Rizom UV on a UDIM workflow, which is why the rifle can hold as much texture detail as it does — Rizom builds the tiles quickly and Substance Painter then reads the whole weapon as a single project rather than as a set of parts to match up afterwards. The last chapter imports the mesh and its maps into Marmoset Toolbag, builds the materials, and sets lighting and camera for presentation.
Level is intermediate. The prerequisite is not experience with this subject but familiarity with the primary functions of each application, since nothing is paused to explain where a tool lives. The finished model and the working project files stay with the studio: what you are buying is the seven-part recording of how it was made, together with the references it was built against. Every video is silent — no voice-over track and no subtitles.
Every purchase includes free lifetime updates and a no-questions-asked 7 day money back guarantee.
Each tutorial follows one asset from start to finish in real time. Every decision is explained as it is made, so you can see not just what was done but why that approach was chosen over the alternatives.
