Facade In Substance Designer Tutorial
A 300-minute unnarrated Substance Designer build of a classical building facade — no modelling, nodes only, then rendered in Marmoset Toolbag.
Stylized pavement with moss between the stones turns up in almost every hand-painted or fantasy environment, and it is more awkward to author than it looks: the stones need a soft slope at their edges rather than a hard chamfer, and the moss has to sit in the gaps as though it grew there instead of being painted over the top. Volume 05 of the Substance Designer series builds that material from default nodes in a hundred minutes.
The slope on the stone edges comes first, built from the nodes that ship with Substance Designer rather than from anything custom. The pavement stone is created and then modified into shape, and once it reads correctly the moss cover is grown over it.
Colour data is sampled through a gradient map from a handful of source colours and blended with grunge maps until the variation looks unforced, and roughness is handled the simple, effective way that suits stylized work rather than a physically measured one.
The pitch is intermediate: you are expected to know the Substance Designer interface and its basic node vocabulary already, because this is a build-along rather than an introduction. The SBS file needs Substance Designer 11.3 or above to open.
All videos in this volume are unnarrated — no voice-over and no subtitles, so what you are following is the graph going together on screen.
Every purchase includes free lifetime updates and a no-questions-asked 7 day money back guarantee.
Every volume in this aisle is a complete build. We start on an empty graph and finish with a finished, parametric material — no time-lapses and no skipped steps. There is no voice-over and there are no subtitles: you watch the graph go together at full length, at 1080p.
The source .sbs is included, so you can open the finished graph, inspect the exposed parameters and take the technique into your own materials.
