Smart Segmentation

Some models arrive as one mesh when they should be twenty. A scan, a CAD import, a sculpt you merged three weeks ago, an AI-generated shape. Separating that by hand is an afternoon of loop selection.

Smart Segmentation reads the form instead of the topology. It measures thickness and concavity across the surface and cuts where a person would cut — at the joins, around the handle, between the panel and the frame.

The part that makes it usable

Automatic segmentation is easy to demo and hard to ship, because it is right about eighty per cent of the time and there is no way to argue with the other twenty.

So every result here is editable:

• Merge Brush, Merge Lasso and Merge Box to join parts it split too far
• Pick Region To Split to cut one it left whole
• Refine Boundaries to tighten an edge that landed slightly off
• Granularity to ask for more parts or fewer, before touching anything by hand

Explode moves the parts apart so you can see what you actually got. Clear Brush Edits and Reset All Splits take you back if the manual pass went wrong.

What comes out

Separate objects, or one object with the parts baked to materials. Bake To Materials is the faster route when you are heading into Substance Painter and want a material ID map without unwrapping first.

Where it earns its money

• Preparing a scan or an AI mesh for retopology, where you need the parts before you can plan the topology
• Getting a material ID out of a single-mesh import
• Breaking a kitbash back into pieces you can reuse
